Hunting at Oakland County Parks

Limited public hunting is allowed at Highland OaksOrion Oaks and Lyon Oaks County Parks. Limited public hunting is allowed at Addison Oaks EAST only (East of Walker Road, north of Romeo Road and West of Rochester Road; parking lot is on Romeo Road east of Walker Road.)

Annual Vehicle Permit or Daily Park Pass is required. Hunters must follow Michigan Department of Natural Resources regulations and hunt only in designated areas. In addition, several Oakland County Parks rules further govern hunting activity at these parks. 

2007-08 Dates 

Firearms deer hunting is NOT permitted at any time.

Deer Archery Hunting is permitted Oct. 1 - Nov. 14 and Dec. 1 - Jan. 1.

Deer Archery Hunting is permitted Nov. 15-30, but hunters must comply with State of Michigan requirements to wear hunters' orange clothing.

Hunters are HIGHLY encouraged to take adult does to help manage the population. For best management practices, take bucks with at least three points on one side, a spread out to the ears and medium or heavy base.

Successful hunters are asked to report harvested deer to Lyon Oaks at 248.437.7345.

PARK RULES SPECIFIC TO HUNTING ACTIVITY

  • Hours:  ½ hour before sunrise to ½ hour after sunset, or as posted.
  • Hikers and hunters will share the park during the season. Please hunt responsibly.
  • Trapping and firearms hunting of waterfowl/small game/predators/deer is NOT permitted.
  • Deer harvested, or shot and not recovered, must be reported on forms submitted to the park staff.
  • Tree stands and blinds must be properly marked and comply with MDNR rules that state "a portable deer stand left overnight must have the hunter's name and address on the stand and be readable from the ground."  Parks personnel will remove any and all stands that are in violation of the DNR rules.  The appropriated stands will not be returned to the hunter, but will be dismantled and scrapped.  Screw-in type steps are not allowed.
  • No trail flagging material should be placed on trees, branches or other objects.  Do not remove existing flagging.
  • ABSOLUTELY no marking or defacing of any tree, plant, shrub, etc.
  • Fires and overnight camping are not permitted at any time.
  • Obey safety zone signs for residential/commercial areas - strictly enforced.  

Uses of the Oakland County Parks are governed by the "Park Rules & Regulations: enacted by the Oakland County Parks and Recreation Commission February 8, 1966 and with revisions most recent July, 2005. These rules can be viewed on our web site or a copy can be requested by calling 248.858.0906.
