St. Josaphat, the Detroit church whose steeple was damaged by wind back in November, will be among the recipients of Oakland County employee Casual Day donations this year. Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson will hold a news conference Wednesday where he will hand out checks from the Casual Day fund to 17 southeast Michigan organizations which improve the quality of life in the community. County employees in participating departments and divisions donate a minimum of $1 on designated Casual Days in order to wear jeans to work.

St. Josaphat’s iconic steeple has been a part of the Detroit skyline for more than a century. The church estimates it will cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to repair. Patterson authorized a Special Casual Day last Friday with donations going toward its repair.

No taxpayer money is used in the Casual Day fund.
