Patterson and Park West Gallery Seek Michigan’s Next Great Artist

Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson and Park West Gallery will hold a news conference to announce an additional incentive for artists to enter the 2013 MI Great Artist competition. Patterson and Park West Gallery founder Albert Scaglione launched the contest last year as a quality of life initiative to identify and support up-and-coming artists in the Economic Growth Alliance (EGA) region.

Artists who are 18 years and older who also live, work, or go to school in Oakland, Genesee, Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Shiawassee, and St. Clair counties are eligible. They may submit original 2-D works of art online at for a public online vote to determine the top 20 artists. A panel of renowned judges will choose the five finalists and winner, who will win cash and other prizes.

Joining Patterson and Park West Gallery representatives will be last year’s MI Great Artist, Deborah Hyde of West Bloomfield, whose unique quilts are on display at the gallery. Last year, more than 120 artists entered the inaugural competition and 13,500 online votes were submitted.
