Healthy Oakland Partnership (HOP) will host its fourth annual Family Market Day 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25 at the Oakland County Farmers Market in Waterford. This event will feature physical activity mobile units, educational information, yoga, dance, and other fun activities. Family Market Day is open to the public. With a valid ID, WIC clients and residents with an EBT cards are able to receive coupons that can be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables. Coupons are limited to a first come, first serve basis.
"HOP's Family Market Day reflects County Executive L. Brooks Patterson's efforts to improve the quality of life for residents through active and healthy lifestyles," said Kathy Forzley, manager/health officer of the Oakland County Health Division. "The event is designed to help reduce obesity by getting families interested in farmers’ markets, increasing awareness of fresh produce and its local availability, and motivating families to participate in physical activity."
Healthy Oakland Partnership (HOP) is a collaboration of local government, hospitals, health care providers, community based organizations, business, and citizens. HOP provides Information regarding healthy food choices and physical activity, promotion for health and wellness policies in schools, and support to local health initiatives. HOP Partners include Baldwin Center, Beaumont Hospital, Botsford Hospital, Children's Health Initiative Program (CHIP), Detroit Zoo, HealthPlus of Michigan, MSU Extension, Oakland County Board of Commissioners, Oakland County Health Division (OCHD), Oakland County Human Resources, Oakland County Parks and Recreation, Oakland County Youth Assistance, Oakland Schools, Oakland Livingston Human Services Agency (OLHSA), Oakland University, TheraMatrix, William Beaumont Hospital, and YMCA.
