Oakland County Community & Home Improvement Division's (OCCHI) housing counselors encourage homeowners to "Open Your Mail" to avoid foreclosure proceedings.
In a public service television campaign produced by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority, homeowners are encouraged to promptly open mail from their mortgage servicers or their attorneys to protect their rights to a pre-foreclosure meeting. Homeowners have 14 days to respond to the notice. The ads guide viewers to MSHDA's web site or the foreclosure prevention call center, where they will be directed to a counseling agency nearest them.
The spots, based on a suggestion from Lon Shook, one of the housing counselors of OCCHI, began running this week on cable and network television throughout the state. The spot can be seen online at Michigan.gov/MSHDA.
