Pontiac, Michigan -- Oakland County's Homeland Security and Health divisions and their National Preparedness Month partners will host a Smart Kids Are Prepared rally 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Sunday, September 26th, 2010 at Oakland Mall's center court in Troy.
This family-oriented event will feature free materials and information for parents and children to learn about safety at home, school and work and how to develop a family emergency plan. Oakland County residents will receive information about the Health Division's upcoming flu vaccination clinics. Plus, there will be music, games and prizes.
When Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson declared September as National Preparedness Month in Oakland County, he encouraged residents to create a family plan to cope with an unforeseen emergency or disaster.
"Quite simply, being prepared for an emergency saves lives," Patterson said.
AM 910 Radio Disney's road crew will be on hand at the Smart Kids Are Prepared rally powered by State Farm and The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services. Troy Police and Fire departments will also be among the organizations sharing vital preparedness information.
"This event is designed to make learning about being prepared fun for kids and their families," said Ted Quisenberry, Homeland Security Division manager for Oakland County.
