February 13, March 19, April 16, 2012:  Oakland County Hosting Pesticide Applicator Exams

Oakland County MSU Extension will host Michigan Pesticide Applicator and Registered Applicator exams at the Oakland County Executive Office Building Conference Center in Waterford on February 13, March 19, and April 16, 2012, starting at 8:30 a.m.  If you would like to obtain or renew a pesticide applicator certification, please register at the State of Michigan website.  Study manuals are available at the Oakland MSU Extension office.  Please call 248-858-0881 for availability and pricing of study manuals.

Pesticide applicator certification programs and examinations will be held in Macomb County on February 13, and March 19.  Each program will focus on topics eligible for recertification credits in various categories.  These programs are open to residents of any county by sending in the registration form with payment (click on link above).  Please note that you need to schedule examinations separately as described in the registration form brochure.  Study manuals are available for sale at MSU Extension offices.  Contact person:  Hannah Stevens, 586-469-6440.

This class will cover all aspects of caring for your young apple tree:  selecting the right tree for your yard, establishing the tree on your site, caring for and pruning your tree for the first few years after establishment.  This is a course for the homeowner serious about growing quality apples.  Contact:  Linda Smith, 248-858-0895.

May 5th is National Herb Day!  We will celebrate this day with HerbFest 2012.  Join us for a fun and informative day as we focus on culinary herbs.  You will learn how to grow them, cook with them, and various ways to preserve them.   Our presenters will be Judy Cornellier, Beulah Hargrove, and Bill Pioch.    Contact:  Linda Smith, 248-858-0895.

 


August 23 - November 15, 2012:  Master Gardener Volunteer Training Prograam

The Michigan Master Gardener Volunteer Program is a horticulture education program offered by Michigan State University Extension in Oakland County.  Topics covered include plant science, soils/composting, vegetable and flower culture, lawn care, household pests, backyard fruit, woody ornamentals, and indoor plants. The 13 week series will be held on Thursdays, August 23 to November 15, 2012 from 6 to 10 pm.   Classes are held at the Oakland County Service Center Executive Conference Center at 2100 Pontiac Lake Road, Waterford.
