Does breastfeeding hurt?

There is a slight tingling sensation that is felt in the breasts that mothers' feel when "letdown" occurs.  This is perfectly normal.  When the baby is correctly latched onto the breast, the mother should not feel any pain or discomfort.

Do I need to buy supplies to breastfeed my baby?

Breastfeeding your baby does not require mom to buy anything.  A mother may choose to purchase nursing bras, nusing shirts or cover-ups, but none of those items are necessary in order to breastfeed your baby.

How long should I breastfeed my child?

Breastfeeding is a personal choice and each family decides what is best for their circumstances.  However, the American Academy of Pediatrics suggested that all infants be exclusively breastfed for the first 6 months of an infant's life.
