We lend you a cassette player that has been designed to play the tapes from this Library. Some of the nice features about the player are:
It is portable and plays using a built-in rechargeable battery
It has a variable speed control; you can increase or decrease voice speed
If you stop in the middle of a cassette book, the reading will resume at that point; no need to search for your place
When you receive your cassette player, plug it into an electrical outlet for several hours or overnight to charge the battery. Recommended charge time is twelve hours. Once the battery is fully charged it will operate for about six hours. It is not necessary to plug the machine in when listening to cassette books. It is designed to play off the battery and to be recharged. Erratic speed or volume or complete machine shutdown may indicate the battery needs to be recharged. The player can also be played plugged into an electrical outlet if you choose. A word of caution here - whichever way you choose to use the machine, please remain faithful to your choice. If it works best for you to leave it plugged in, do so all the time. On the other hand if you choose to run it on the rechargeable battery pack, do so all the time.
If your machine doesn't work, try several cassettes to make sure the player, rather than the tape, is defective. If you determine the player needs to be repaired, mail or return it to this Library. Please call before you mail it back so that the staff is aware of the reason for the return and a replacement machine can be sent to you immediately.
We ask that you keep the box your player arrives in, so you can easily mail it back if necessary. When returning equipment to us, simply mark the box "FREE MATTER FOR THE BLIND" in the space for postage, or use a return mail label we can provide for you. Please mention what is wrong with the equipment and enclose your name. If you are unable to return materials yourself, please enlist the help of a friend, family member, or care giver.
If you need to return your machine and do not have the original box, follow these procedures: Place several layers of crumpled newspaper in the bottom of a sturdy box. Center the machine in the box and pack more papers around the sides and top forming a cushion inside the box. Seal the box with strong tape, place a "free" mailing label on the outside and mail it to us.
Last, but by no means least, treat your machine like a fine piece of furniture. Keep it clean and away from possible damage, especially from heat or liquids.
Used with standard-type headphones and is designed for Hearing Impaired Only. A separate application requiring medical certification is necessary to obtain an amplifier.
Assists readers who lack sufficient manual dexterity to press the buttons on cassette players. The levers are designed to be manipulated with elbows, wrists, feet and chins.
