Ordinances

Municipal Code Corporation - http://www.municode.com
This commercial database contains the ordinances for over 1,500 local government entities, including over 160 from Michigan cities, villages, and townships. The website includes a full copy of State Law Affecting Michigan Municipal Charters, Codes and Ordinances.

American Legal Publishing Corporation - http://www.amlegal.com
Select a state from a map or menu to access city codes and zoning ordinances. The database includes about 1,800 links including about 25 Michigan locales.

Special note: If you can not find the local ordinances you wish to view, try this:

  • Search the internet. Many cities, townships and villages post their ordinances on their own websites.  For example, go to http://www.google.com and put the name of the city and state in the query box.
  • Contact the appropriate city, township or village clerk's office for a copy in print. Not all ordinances are available in electronic format.
  • Contact the public library in that locality to see if the local ordinances are maintained in their collection.
