About the Historical Commission

Oakland County Courthouse 1904The members of the Oakland County Historical Commission (OCHC) are citizen volunteers, appointed by the County Commissioners. The purpose of the Historical Commission is to:

  • Promote and foster interest in the history of Oakland County
  • Encourage local groups by being an information center
  • Help with structuring projects
  • Coordinate activities
  • Assist with National & State Registries
  • Hold appropriate seminars

The Commission meets monthly, except for June & July, to discuss the needs of the County and to plan activities. We are an outreach organization, traveling to communities around Oakland County to conduct seminars, and using our personal resources to answer questions and create educational tools for the public. (This Mission Statement was presented to the General Government Committee in 1993.)
