Environmental Health Services Community Health Programs
Community Health encompasses those activities that Environmental Health Services investigates or controls that do not really fit into the other categories. Included are investigations into communicable and infectious disease outbreaks, insect and vector control, rat and pigeon control, and the surveillance for Lyme Disease, Eastern Equine Encephalitis, and West Nile Virus.
Because Lyme Disease is the most frequently reported insect-borne illness in the United States, mandatory reporting of all cases diagnosed within the County is required. Fortunately, surveillance efforts have failed to detect any locations within the County where risk of exposure to Lyme Disease appears high. However, precautions against exposure to biting ticks is advised, as Lyme Disease or other tick-borne disease pathogens might appear without warning.
