Travel


Before going abroad:
  • Determine what medical services your health insurance covers
  • Pack both your insurance policy identity card as proof of insurance and a claim form
  • If you have pre-existing medical problems, carry a letter from your physician describing the medical condition and prescription medications
  • Make sure your required medications are not considered to be illegal narcotics in the country to which you are traveling 
  • Find a list of certified health care providers and hospitals in your area of travel
  • Know the current disease situation in the county to which you are traveling 
  • Be sure to be up-to-date on vaccinations
  • Postpone travel if you are not feeling well
When Traveling:
  • When traveling abroad to an area infected by Avian Influenza, avoid places such as poultry farms and bird markets  
  • Take all medications as prescribed
  • Monitor your health and seek medical attention if needed  
  • Handwashing is one of the most important practices in preventing illness
Returning Home
  • Notify healthcare providers immediately if you become ill within 10 days of your return
  • Monitor your health that of those around you for 10 days after your return
  • Watch the news for alerts of possible outbreaks in the country once you've returned
