Plan Your Pregnancy

Give Your Baby A Healthy Start!

Whether it is your first baby or fifth baby, a healthy baby begins with a healthy woman.  If you are of child bearing age:

  • Take a multiple vitamin with folic acid daily
  • If you have a medical condition like diabetes, high blood pressure, or seizures make sure it is well-controlled and your medications are appropriate for pregnancy
  • Brush your teeth twice daily and floss daily (any infection even a cavity can cause premature labor)
  • Achieve your healthy weight
  • Eat healthy, 5 servings of fruits & vegtables a day
  • Make sure your immunizations are up to date
  • Don't smoke
  • Don't drink alcohol or use street drugs
  • Consult a physician regarding using over the counter drugs, herbs, and nutritional supplements.  Make sure they are safe during pregnancy.
  • Avoid second hand smoke
  • Exercise
  • Avoid exposure to radiation, xrays, lead, or other possible toxins
  • Manage your stress level, seek support for issues that cause you stress
