Doug Smith leads the county’s efforts in industry diversification and commercialization of technology through the Emerging Sectors Program, Medical Mainstreet, the Economic Growth Alliance, and the Business Roundtable. He oversees the Economic Development & Community Affairs Division which includes Community & Home Improvement, Planning & Economic Development Services, Workforce Development, Marketing & Communications and the Film Office.

Smith served for nine years as the director of real estate and development for the city of Troy; prior to that was vice-president and chief administrative officer for Walsh College from 1991-1998; and, in the past, was an aide to Gov. William Milliken on education, finance and taxation; on the State Board of Education for five years; director of policy and legislation for the Michigan Department of Commerce and Michigan Business Ombudsman. He established the Office of Economic Expansion at Grand Valley State University and directed a number of economic development initiatives in the greater Grand Rapids area. He has been a member of the Michigan Economic Developers Association (MEDA) since 1979. Smith serves as a board member for MSU’s University Center Research Park (UCRP), the Michigan Schools & Government Credit Union (MSGCU), and the Boys & Girls Club of Troy where he chaired the club’s successful $3.5 million capital campaign.
Smith holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and government from Lawrence University, master’s degree from the University of Michigan in public policy, specializing in international economics. He is a licensed real estate broker. His wife, Carol, is an attorney. They have one son, Kevin, a graduate of the Eli Broad School of Business at Michigan State University.

Maureen Donohue Krauss serves as the Director for the Department of Economic Development and Community Affairs for Oakland County, Michigan, and has held that position since 2005. The Department focuses on two main areas: community development and business support services. She served Oakland County for six years as a Senior Business Development Representative where her focus was international attraction, working on over $700 million in new investment projects for Oakland County.
In 2003, Krauss served as the President of the Michigan Economic Developers Association, a 400 member organization that serves economic development professionals throughout the state. She is an active member of the German American and the French American Chambers of Commerce, and is on the Boards of the Swedish American Chamber of Commerce of Detroit, the Italian American Business and Technology Council, and the British American Business Council.
Krauss formerly held economic development positions in Arizona and Metro Detroit. In 1994 the Arizona Association for Economic Development named her Economic Developer of the Year. She holds current Board of Directors memberships on the Rochester Community Schools Foundation, the North Oakland YMCA, and The Legacy Project. She served on numerous community Boards in the past, including the YMCA of Glendale Arizona, Peoria Jaycees, Lions Club, and American Diabetes Association of Central Illinois. She is a member of the Leadership Detroit Class of 2009.
Krauss has a Bachelors Degree in Political Science from Albion College in Albion, Michigan, and a Masters Degree in Public Policy from the University of Michigan. She lives in Rochester Hills with her husband Dean and her two children, John and Natalie.

Dan Hunter oversees a team of 40 professionals who work on County-wide planning initiatives in areas such as land use, environmental stewardship and commercial revitalization.
Activities include being a member of Michigan Economic Developer's Association, member of American Planning Association, Michigan Chapter Board Member, Automotive National Heritage Area Partnership Board Member, and Manufacturing Academy of Plastic Sciences.
He was previously employed by the City of Reading, Pennsylvania, focusing on business retention/expansion and downtown redevelopment efforts. Received a B.A. degree from West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia, and a Master of City and Regional Planning from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.
David Schreiber is involved in the development and implementation of new economic development strategic initiatives. He has been involved in the development and implementation of such successful Oakland County initiatives as Automation Alley, the Great Lakes Interchange SmartZone, the Automation Alley Technology Accelerator and the Oakland County Emerging Sector program.
