Work Force Training

Worker Recruitment and Job Training Programs

Oakland County Work Force Development  This county division helps to train and place unemployed workers by coordinating Michigan Works! programs locally.


Michigan Jobs This State of Michigan Web site aims to help individuals looking for jobs.


Michigan Talent BankA free Internet-based database that contains more than 600,000 resumes. Employers can search existing resumes and post job openings. Assistance is available to employers in using the system upon request.


MichiganWorks! Service Centers
If you are an employer looking for workers, or to upgrade the skills of an existing work force, Oakland County has nine electronically linked centers to serve you.

This countywide Work Force Development System provides convenient one-stop access to all of the worker recruitment services and job training incentives available in Michigan. Worker recruitment specialists are available for on-site or telephone consultation. Various services are provided at the Centers.


Economic Development Job Training Grants  This program provides training funds for businesses that promote new job opportunities, advanced training for existing employees, and skilled training for new workers.


Incumbent Worker Program (IWP) This program provides job training grants for upgrading the skills of a companys existing work force. It provides job specific retraining or upgrading of skills related to the use of new technology. All training providers must be licensed by the State of Michigan and priority in the selection process will be given to Oakland Community College.


On-The-Job Training Programs (OJT)
Provides occupational training to qualifying new hires or existing employees in exchange for reimbursement of up to 50 percent of the wage rate to compensate for the employer's extraordinary cost of training.

 

The Michigan New Jobs Training Program

This program can provide virtually cost-free training for new employees for businesses that are locating or expanding operations in the state.  This unique incentive allows for businesses to partner with a community college to design a training program that produces the highly-trained employees that can increase your competitive edge.

Oakland Schools Career Focused Education Curriculum -- Technical Campuses  Oakland County has an extensive program of advanced training for K-12 students to prepare them for careers in engineering and other technical fields. This program is generating a large number of graduates with ready-to-employ skills in some of the most in demand occupations in the country. Advanced technical training is provided in such areas as:
  • Engineering/Manufacturing & Industrial Technology
  • Business, Management, Marketing & Technology
  • Health Sciences
  • Natural Resources & Agriscience, Culinary Arts/Hospitality Human Services
  • Arts & Communications
