Celebrate GIS Day with Oakland County
November 17, 2004 is the sixth annual GIS Day. GIS Day is a world-wide, grassroots event where geographic information systems (GIS) professionals open their doors to schools, businesses, and the general public to showcase real-world applications of this important technology. GIS is computer software that links geographic information (where things are) with descriptive information (what things are). Unlike a flat paper map where "what you see is what you get," a GIS can present many layers of different information.
As part of this years GIS Day celebration, Oakland County will provide free map products during regular business hours in the One Stop Shop (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
