Oakland County and Cranbrook Partnership unveils new Surface Geology Map
In December 2002, Oakland County and Cranbrook, in conjunction with Oakland Schools, unveiled a new County Surface Geology Map and educational packet to a group of approximately 80 Natural and Social Science Teachers. This event was a culmination of approximately 2 years of active work by Cranbrook, the PEDS Division and the GIS Utility.
The goal of this partnership was to establish a model local geographic information system (GIS) education program that studies the unique natural history of Oakland County and advances science and technology K-12 education and literacy. The GIS data and resulting map are a tremendous resource for educators, planners and land use/environmental professionals who are interested in geology and landform information throughout the County.
