NACo award for Animal Control Census System
June 17, 2009 Eleven Oakland County government programs have been named 2009 Achievement Award winners by the National Association of Counties (NACo). The Department of Information Technology won awards for the Animal Control Census System. Oakland County Animal Control (OCAC) conducts an annual pet census. To improve the way census information is collected, OCAC implemented an ArcGIS Mobile system. Instead of being sent out with paper maps and log sheets, inspectors are provided a mobile device to conduct door-to-door inspections. Inspectors reduce manual data entry and provide real-time access to census results. The NACo Achievement Award Program recognizes counties for improving the management of and services provided by county government. Since the program's inception in 1970, it has honored hundreds of county government initiatives that have improved service delivery, achieved greater cost efficiency, improved customer service and helped to develop a better-trained work force.
