For over three years, Oakland County Department of Information Technology has been working with FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) and Oakland County CVTs (cities, villages, and townships) to facilitate the redelineation of floodplains for the entire County. This process has been a long one and is now coming to an end. The following are the milestones towards the adoption of the newly redelineated maps:

Letter of Final Determination (LFD) & Final Distribution
Letter sent to communities indicating maps are final, along with the effective date of maps, and notification of the start of 6 month period by which new maps have to be adopted through a new ordinance. National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) participants and emergency entrants to NFIP will have 6 months from this date to adopt the new maps. New NFIP participants will have 12 months from this date to adopt the new maps.

Final Data Submittal to MSC & GPO
Data is submitted to the Map Service Center (MSC) which houses the maps in paper format, on the web site, and also distributes the effective maps. This involves another QC before sending it to the Government Printing Office (GPO) for printing, after which the maps are mailed to communities.

Please note that a portion of City of Troy has not been completed through this process. FEMA is currently working to incorporate an existing study and a new study is being commissioned. These studies will be incorporated into the new maps as map revisions at a later date.
