Oakland County Enterprise GIS Calendar


The following are some calendar items for Oakland County's Enterprise GIS:



GIS Steering Committee Meetings are held in the auditorium of the Oakland County Department of Information Technology building.  Meetings start at 9 A.M. and usually last for about 2 hours.

GIS training classes

  • Fundamentals of GIS. This class is generally taught every other month on the fourth Wednesday of the month from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon.

This is an introductory half-day course that covers fundamental concepts of GIS.  The class is designed for those with little or no knowledge of GIS.  Some of the topics covered include: 

  • Type GIS data
  • Basic map navigation
  • GIS organizational issues
  • Introduction to spatial analysis
  • Overview of GIS efforts in Oakland County

  • Basics of ArcGIS.  This class is generally taught every other month on the third or fourth Wednesday of the month from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

This is a full day course.  Prospective students should have a thorough understanding of the fundamental GIS concepts presented in the introductory Fundamentals of GIS class. The class will cover basic GIS functionality of ArcMap and ArcCatalog, including: 

  • GIS data manipulation
  • GIS data formats (shapefiles, geodatabase, etc.)
  • Map generation
  • Working with spatial and non-spatial data

Classes are held in the Lower Level Training Rooms in the Information Technology Building. If you are a representative from a County agency or a local unit of government and want to register for a course, please complete the Training Registration Form found under www.oakgov.com/ittrain/assets/docs/register.pdf and sign it. Submit your completed registration form to the IT Reception Desk or fax to (248) 858-1006. You will receive a confirmation email verifying that your seat is confirmed. If you do not receive a confirmation email before the date of your requested class, please contact training@oakgov.com or call (248) 858-0810 to make sure that your registration form was received.
