Role: As Deputy County Executive, Poisson provides legal counsel for the county on matters involving environmental infrastructure, water quality and public transit. He also develops strategies for confronting and resolving challenges faced by county government related to infrastructure, water quality and public transit. Poisson also defends, coordinates and monitors litigation brought against the county and its officials involving infrastructure, water quality and public transit issues. He represents the county at meetings and public forums, directs special projects, and coordinates Oakland County Risk Management and Corporation Counsel functions.

  • Admitted to the practice of law before all State of Michigan Courts, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan,the U.S. Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States.

Oakland County Achievements:

Director of Oakland County Corporation Counsel from 1994 to 1999, responsible for its supervision, direction and control.

Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney from 1989 to 1994 for the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office, responsible for the office's management and daily operation of a staff of 150 and an annual operating budget of $11 million.

Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, Senior Trial Attorney from 1981 to 1988, assigned to complex and highly sensitive investigations.

Personal:

Poisson graduated with a J.D., Summa Cum Laude in September 1981 from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan. He was a member of the Cooley Law Review and Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity. His honors include the Corpus Juris Secundum Award "For Significant Legal Scholarship", West Publishing Hornbook Award "For Outstanding Scholastic Achievement," and the American Jurisprudence Book Awards: Torts, Civil Procedure, Secured Transactions, Corporations, Evidence, Equity/Remedies. After graduation, and prior to joining Oakland County, Poisson served as a Senior Law Intern for the Michigan Department of Attorney General, and as a Special Agent, Criminal Investigator, for the U.S. Treasury Department, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
