In July 2001, the federal Office of Management and Budget established an eGovernment task force to identify priority actions that achieve strategic improvements in government. This set in motion a transformation of government around citizen needs.
At an October 2001 meeting of the President's Management Council, the recommendations of that eGovernment task force were presented and approved. The initiatives are targeted at improving the quality of services to citizens, businesses, governments, and government employees, as well as the effectiveness and efficiency of the federal government.
As a result, Oakland County eGovernment began in 2002 when the Oakland County Web site was completely redesigned to serve as the platform for the expansion of its online services. This was accomplished initially with the introduction of a state-of-the-art hosting and security infrastructure, a content management system, which effectively decentralized site maintenance, and the development of micro-sites all across the County.
In doing so, the County was able to grow online resources by leaps and bounds -- taking the Web site from about 2,700 pages in 2001, covering 10 County governmental units, to covering nearly all 60 County units and agencies, with a total of nearly 16,000 pages of content and services online today!
