Final NO HAZ Collection of the Year to be Held October 20

Time is running out to clean out your basement and garage and get rid of old cans of stain, cleaners, gasoline and pesticides the right way. The North Oakland Household Hazardous Waste Consortium (NO HAZ) is holding the final collection of the year on Saturday, October 20. The collection will be held at the Eagle Valley Recycle and Disposal Facility at 600 Silver Bell Road in Orion Township, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

New to the program this year is the collection of used motor oil. Up to 25 gallons per vehicle will be accepted.

The collection is open to residents of Addison Township, Commerce Township, Groveland Township, Lake Orion, Leonard, Oakland Township, Orion Township, Oxford, Oxford Township, Pontiac, Rochester, Rochester Hills, Waterford Township, White Lake Township and Wolverine Lake.  Residents of other communities should contact their city, village or township office for disposal options.

Residents of NO HAZ communities do not have to register or make an appointment. They simply give their name and address at the collection for billing back to the individual communities. This is a free service for residents of member communities; however, donations are accepted.

Items collected at the NO HAZ events include: oil based paints and stains, antifreeze, gasoline, kitchen and bath cleaners and polishes, mercury and mercury thermometers, aerosols, pesticides, herbicides, computer and electronic equipment.  Latex paint is not accepted. Latex paint can be dried to a solid and then thrown out with the trash. NO HAZ is a consortium of 11 Oakland County communities representing 15 local governments that work to provide residents a safe and environmentally responsible way to dispose of household hazardous waste. Its goal is to provide residents with a regular, reliable and easily accessible collection service. To date, residents from 5,600 households have participated in the program and over 225 tons of hazardous materials have been recycled or properly disposed.
