Established in 1832, the City of the Village of Clarkston, features historic charm in the heart of Oakland County. This one-half square mile community is surrounded by Independence Township, home to approximately 900 people and within close proximity of I-75 and Dixie Highway.
Clarkston’s downtown, which has been designated a National Historical Site, features a picturesque main street lined with unique shops, eateries and businesses. Throughout the year Clarkston is host to several events including, concerts in Depot Park, parades, festivals and an art fair. The historic homes in the city reflect Clarkston’s heritage, giving the community an air of timeless elegance.

Independence Township at-a-Glance
Home to almost 32,000 residents, Independence Township is a growing residential community that is located northern Oakland County. This 36-square mile rustic hideaway is surrounded by rolling hills, lakes, woodlands and farms, but is also bisected by I-75 and Dixie Highway. 
Recreational amenities include Independence Oaks County Park, DTE outdoor music theater and the Pine Knob ski area. In addition, Independence Township has four parks featuring swimming, tennis, hiking and a community-built playscape. So, if you are looking for a quiet getaway in an excellent location, then Independence Township is where you need to be.

The Workforce Development Division of Oakland County helps train and place unemployed workers by partnering with Michigan Works! Each center provides employers with a wide range of services including, applicant recruitment, onsite interview rooms, training funds for planned new hires, information technology (IT) training and out-placement assistance. The centers also provide assistance to job seekers including, resources on resume writing and interviewing, job placement, testing and assessment, training funds to enhance or gain new skills, and IT training.

Art in the Village
Each September, as summer turns to fall, art lovers from around the metro-Detroit area come to Clarkston for Art in the Village, a juried art fair. Hosted by the Clarkston Community Historical Society, this fair features artists from around the state and nation. All mediums are represented, including painting, drawing, blown and fused glass, photography, jewelry, fabric, weaving and much more.
