Oakland County residential electricity is provided exclusively by Consumers Power and DTE Energy, although commercial and industrial customers have a choice among 21 alternative energy producers for electricity generation. Visit the Michigan Public Service Commission for a list of alternative providers.
Residential Electric Service Rate
Power Supply Charges
4.531¢ per kWh for the first 17 kWh/day
5.941¢ per kWh for the excess
Delivery Charges
Distribution charge of 4.284¢ per kWh
Available to customers desiring service for all residential purposes through one meter to a single or double occupancy dwelling unit.
Senior Citizen Electric Service Rate
Power Supply Charges
3.131¢ per kWh for the first 10 kWh/day
9.883¢ per kWh for the excess
Delivery Charges
Distribution charge of 2.706¢ per kWh
Available to customers who are age 62 or older, head of the household and average 520 kilowatt hours or less a month.
Interruptible Space Conditioning Electric Service Rate
Power Supply Charges
June through October, 3.800¢ per kWh for all kWh
November through May, 2.000¢ per kWh for all kWh
Delivery Charges
Distribution charge of 3.722¢ per kWh (year-round)
Service charge (June through October) of $1.95 per month
To take advantage of this rate, your central air conditioner or central heat pump must be wired to a separate meter.

Large General Service Rate
Demand Charge: $3.50 per kW applied to the Monthly Billing Demand
Energy Charges: 4.243¢ per kWh for first 200 kWh
3.253¢ per kWh for the excess
Available to customers desiring service for any purpose, except that this rate is not available in conjunction with the General Service Rate.
General Service Rate
8.928¢ per kWh for all kWh
Delivery service charge of $8.78 per month
Available to customers desiring service for any purpose, except this rate is not available in conjunction with Large General Service Rate.
Service may be available to loads in excess of 1000 kWh where modifications to facilities are not required to serve the excess load.
GreenCurrents Program
DTE Energy offers a GreenCurrents program, a voluntary program that makes being green easy and affordable. Residential rates are an additional $2.50 for only the first 100 kWh/month (regular rates thereafter), or 100% of electricity consumption for an additional $0.02 per kWh.
Business rates are an additional $20.00 for only the first 1000 kWh/month (regular rates thereafter), or 100% of electricity consumption for an additional $0.02 per kWh.
Natural Gas
Oakland County natural gas is provided by Consumers Energy except in Milford, and parts of Highland and Lyon Townships which are provided by MichCon (a subsidiary of DTE) and a portion of Addison Township which is provided by SEMCO Energy.
Residential Rate $8.50/month base charge + $1.8613 per Mcf.
General Service Rate*
GS-1 $8.50 per meter $1.8337 per Mcf
GS-2 $17.00 per meter $1.5662 per Mcf
GS-3 $425.00 per meter $0.8357 per Mcf
*Customers may choose their Service Category, understanding that the break-even point between GS-1 and GS-2 is approximately 381 Mcf per year and the break-even point between GS-2 and GS-3 is approximately 6,702 Mcf per year. After the selection is made it is the customers responsibility to determine when to switch Service Categories.
