2005's Most Popular Baby Names in Oakland County
Oakland County, MI, January 3, 2006--Emma and Lucas were the most popular names for babies born in Oakland County in 2005.
"Let's just say we didn't see a lot of baby Ruths," says Ruth Johnson, Oakland County Clerk/Register of Deeds. While numbers haven't been finalized, Johnson's office processed at least 18,684 birth certificates in 2005, down from 21,384 birth certificates in 2004.

Other popular girls' names include MacKenzie, Hannah, Paige and Alivia (Olivia). Popular boys' names that didn't make the Top 10 include Christian, Brenden, Zachary, James and Jackson.
The survey of birth certificates found dozens of Oakland County parents naming their new bundles of joy for locations - with names like Africa, India, Boston, Dallas, Georgia, Brooklyn, London, Camden and Eden.
Names ran the gamut, with both a Liberty and Justice, an Elvis and several Presleys, a suprising number of Chances, a Zowie, dozens of Destinys, a Legacy, Dior, Isis and one male child dubbed Supreme Inspiration.
Other names may have been inspired by current celebrities, including a dozen or so girls named Paris, a boy named Joaquin, Kobes, Reeses, a Fantasia, Selena, Shania and a Bo.
Not all parents followed the trends. There were plenty of Williams and Johns, as well as the rarer Otto, Homer, Felix, Oscar, Melvin, Harriet, Chester, Ruby and Romeo.
The Oakland County Clerk's Office records information from the public at a variety of stages in life.
While numbers have not been finalized, the Vital Records Division processed 10,489 death certificates, down from 11,236 death certificates in 2004. There were 7,342 marriage applications, down slightly from 7,400 application in 2004.
There were an estimated 31,000 Circuit Court filings in 2005, including 7,300 civil cases, 6,100 criminal cases and 7,900 divorce cases - up slightly from 7,647 divorce cases in 2004.
In the Register of Deeds office, 365,660 property documents were officially recorded.
