Ruth Johnson, Board of Commissioners Honor Groveland Township Fire Chief, Supervisor
Oakland County, Michigan, September 20, 2007 -- Groveland Township's supervisor and fire chief were honored today by Ruth Johnson, the Oakland County Clerk/Register, and the Oakland County Board of Commissioners.
Supervisor Robert DePalma and Fire Chief Steve McGee received commendation plaques and bronze eagle statues from Johnson during the Board of Commissioners' meeting.
"They do their job very quietly, but with determination and a sense of responsibility to their citizens," said Johnson, who presented the proclamations along with Board of Commissioners Chairman Bill Bullard, Jr. and Commissioner Brad Jacobsen.
DePalma has worked hard to protect the quality of life in Groveland, including the development of the northwest section of the township as a business and technology corridor. That type of low-impact land use helps preserve the environment, Johnson said.
McGee led the Groveland Township Fire Department to earn an insurance rating of "4" - the best for a department that size. As a result, residents are safer and can save as much as $500 off their home insurance bills, Johnson said, smiling as she added: "When's the last time government saved anyone $500?"
