Welcome to the Oakland County Clerk/Register of Deeds Web Site
As we look back on 2007, I'm very proud of our office and the huge advances we made in putting technology to work, making it as convenient as possible for our citizens. Review our 2007 Annual Report (pdf file size 2mb).
Court Explorer, which allows online users to view basic Oakland Circuit Court case information and order documents, had more than a quarter-million visits.
Our online Campaign Finance system now allows interested voters to see who is donating money to local political candidates and committees, promoting transparency and accountability in government.
We tackled the growing crime of deed fraud too - where people used forged documents to 'steal' homes on paper. Fraudcheck, believed to be the first of its kind in the country, allows our property owners to see if unauthorized documents have been recorded against their name.
That wasn't all, in 2007 we:
Provided more than 6,000 couples with marriage licenses
Filled 16,000 internet orders for birth, death and court records
Recorded the names of more than 18,000 new babies
Assisted travelers with more than 700 passport applications
Recorded nearly 300,000 deeds, mortgages and other property documents
Processed nearly five million pages of paper - so many that if laid end-to-end, they could stretch from Oakland County to the Mackinac Bridge and home again - twice
Looking forward, more improvements are planned for 2008, including an expansion of our eFiling service with the Oakland County Circuit Court and new efforts to fight identity theft with our Identity Protection Task Force.
Read what's current in the Clerk's Quarterly Newsletter (pdf file size 1.3mb). The winter/spring 2008 edition is full of useful information and upcoming events.
