Death Records (Certified Copies of Death Certificates)


You may now order death records online for deaths occurring in Oakland County after 1935. (Records prior to 1935 are available by request in-person or by mail only. See below for more information.)

Fee: $15.00 for the first copy; $5.00 for each additional copy of same record (Visa and MasterCard accepted.) Plus, an additional $5.00 is charged for Enhanced Access to County records. See links to the right for more information. Also see information below.

All copies issued by this office are certified copies with a "raised" seal. The issuance of certified copies is governed by Michigan statutes. These statutes are available for inspection in the Vital Records Office.

If you do not want to submit your request online, you may also apply:

  • In-person. Requests received in-person are generated the same day. You must provide the name of the deceased and the date of death. Cash, Visa, Mastercard or money orders only are accepted when appearing in person (no personal checks). find location
  • By mail. Requests submitted by mail are processed within three (3) business days, and you should receive your copy(s) in seven (7) to ten (10) business days. Send a money order or Visa/MasterCard information (name, card number, expiration date) only when ordering by mail (no personal checks). get address

Mail and Counter Fees: Make money orders payable to Oakland County Clerk; or submit valid credit card number (Visa or MasterCard) with expiration date (no personal checks):

  • $15 for the first copy.
  • $5 for additional copies (of the same record ordered at the same time).
