The Family Division of the Circuit Court was created by Public Act 388 of 1996. On January 1, 1998, family matters handled previously by the Circuit and Probate Courts in Oakland County became consolidated under the new Family Division of the Circuit Court, creating a place where a family could go with all of its legal problems. Family Division cases involving a single family are assigned to a judicial team consisting of the judge, referees, case assistants, and family counselors.
Through these units, the goal of the Oakland County Circuit Court Family Division is to make decisions concerning families and provide quality services to families in a fair, timely, and dignified manner.
