Comprehensive Health Care Available to the Poorest of the Poor
The Adult Benefit Waiver Program (ABW) is a health plan for individuals who need it most. The Oakland County Board of Commissioners has arranged for the health benefits
to be made available to people who meet certain criteria. Oakland Health Plan, a
not-for-profit organization, will operate the program. This plan is not a service of the Oakland County Government, and there is no cost to taxpayers. There are no monthly premiums for qualified candidates.
ABW covers visits to an assigned Primary Care Physician, referrals to specialists, referrals for outpatient diagnostic services and procedures, and prescription drugs. The program is only available during open enrollment periods determined by the state of Michigan.
Call your local Michigan DHS Office to find out when the next open enrollment period is expected to begin; to ask for an application; or to get more information. Here is a general guideline:
ELIGIBILITY:
Oakland County Resident
Ages 19-64
Not disabled or eligible for Medicaid or any other medical programs
Income less than 35 percent of the federal poverty level
(about $200-$250/month)
Eligibility will be determined by the Michigan Department of Human Services.
