Library Board


The Library Board was established by statute. The Board is authorized to contract for the leasing, construction, or maintenance of buildings or quarters, including the acquisition of sites to house county library services.

The Board is also authorized to operate the county library service. The Board consists of seven members serving 5-year terms. Board members include the Superintendent of Oakland Schools, one member appointed by the Oakland County Circuit Court, one appointed by the County Executive, and four appointed by the Board of Commissioners.

Members are entitled to receive a $35 per diem for each meeting, with the exception of the judge appointee and the commissioner appointee. Members are also provided a County allowance for mileage reimbursement. The Board normally meets the last Wednesday of each month, at 3:00 p.m., in the library conference room. The library is located in the Courthouse West Wing Extension, Building #14 East at 1200 North Telegraph Road, in Pontiac, Michigan.

The Board will be seeking one individual from the general public to fill a new term that begins when the current term expires in 2011. The Board of Commissioners will start accepting applications in 2011.
