It is with great sadness that we report the sudden death of Commissioner Jeff Potter on June 21, 2010. The Board of Commissioners and Commission staff will miss him, and we wish his family the best in this difficult time.
Boundaries: Includes the cities of South Lyon, Walled Lake and Wixom along with a portion of the City of Novi. He also represents the Charter Township of Lyon.
First elected: November 2002 Current term : January 1, 2009 -- December 31, 2010 Passing: On June 21, 2010, Commissioner Potter passed away of an apparent heart attack. He is survived by his wife and three children. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Activities in the Community:
For thirteen years, Jeff Potter served as the Mayor of the City of South Lyon, completing his service upon his election to the Oakland County Board of Commissioners. He has also served as a City Council member as well as on several municipal boards and committees.
Commissioner Potter was an active proponent of community partnerships to reduce the cost of government and add to Oakland County's quality of life. He was an organizer and founding community sponsor of the Huron Valley Trail System, which connects many southwest Oakland communities and area parks. In addition, Mr. Potter authored a Strategic Land Acquisition project to preserve land for 'greenspace' and future parks.
Commissioner Potter was honored with the Distinguished Leadership in Joint Public Services Award (1998) and Outstanding Project Award (1998) for southeastern Michigan, by the Center for Joint Public Services.
Personal:
Commissioner Jeff Potter was a graduate of Eastern Michigan University and retired after a thirty-year career at Ford Motor Company in Wixom.
Since 1984, Commissioner Potter lived in South Lyon with his wife, Andra, where they raised their three children: Daniel, Michael and Jessica.
Their son, Daniel graduated from Lawrence Technological University in Southfield and is currently employed as an engineer. Michael will soon receive His Master's Degree from Indiana University, and begin a career as a Public Finance Analyst in Washington, D.C. Jessica is a sophomore at Eastern Michigan University, currently seeking admission into their Nursing program.
