Patterson is a graduate of the University of Michigan and is a licensed pharmacist in the State of Michigan. He was a successful business owner/operator of Patterson Pharmacy and is a member of the Oxford United Methodist Church. He resides in Oxford with his wife, Ruth, and has five children and 13 grandchildren.
