Oakland County Achievements:

  • Secured 2, 000, 000 million dollars for Rail-to-Trails-Clinton River Trail.
  • M-59 & Adams Interchange w/Adams Road
  • Crooks/M-59 Interchange ,I-75 widening 8 Mile to Square Lake Road, M-59 --3 Lane to Macomb County, and reworked Auburn Road, and Adams to Dequindre.
  • Spearheaded: Successful effort to detail Lansing's Internet tax legislation.
  • Spearheaded: Defeat of fuel tax increase.
  • Spearheaded: Defeat of measure that would buy jet aircraft for state elected officials.
  • Spearheaded: Effort to cap 6% sales tax on gasoline at $1.20/gallon (even when gas cost more).
  • Spearheaded: Saving taxpayers $10 million in acquisition costs, and saving jobs, by prevailing on MDOT to redesign a connector round around the Troy Delphi facility.
  • Spearheaded: Legislation reining-in Ameritech by limiting "local long distance" rates and mandating better customer service.
  • A Gosselin-sponsored hearing in Oakland County "broke the logjam" that had held up reform. Newspaper articles authored by Robert Gosselin spurred legislators to finish the job.
  • Spearheaded: Legislation that saved GM Tech Center by removing a legal roadblock to a local tax abatement.
  • Spearheaded: Successful legislation giving police and firefighters the human right to live where they choose, not just where they work (including Detroit).
  • Spearheaded: An effort to build a consensus in Lansing for no budget increases greater than the rate of inflation.
  • Spearheaded: Defeating transit legislation (DARTA) that would have levied up to $2 billion in new regional taxes to bolster Detroit's corrupt, union-dominated transit system.
  • Spearheaded: Effort to defeat the 2002 "Shift and Shaft" property tax increase that moved December school taxpayers more every year.
  • Spearheaded: Legislation to preempt local "living-wage" ordinances that kill jobs, waste millions of taxpayer dollars, and reduce city services.
  • Spearheaded:Defeat of a job-killing measure that would have imposed higher unemployment insurance taxes on businesses by raising benefits to excessive levels.
  • Spearheaded: A bill in Lansing to lower the drunk driving intoxication level from .10 to .08 blood alcohol content.
  • Spearheaded: Tough penalties for "fake doctors." Gosselin-authored legislation, now Public Act 167 of 1999, was passed when several Oakland citizens were harmed by a fake doctor who had forged medical licenses.
  • Spearheaded: "Millage Voters Right to Know" Act. Gosselin authored Public Act 248 of 1999, a state law that requires full disclosure in the language of local millage-hike and bond issue votes.

     

In the Community: 

  • Worked on over 50 committees in Oakland County during elections. 
  • Sponsored and co-sponsored 215 Bills that became part of the State Law--MCL.
  • Spearheaded: Troy Term Limits petition drive. Changed city charter to limit council terms.
  • Spearheaded: "Cut-and Cap" Troy property taxes petition drive.
  • Spearheaded: Petition drive to require voter approval for any new city debt.
  • Spearheaded: Reform SOCCRA. Led successful multi-city effort to reform solid waste agency bureaucracy, and cut fees for residents.
  • Spearheaded: Rein-in SOCCRA. Stopped proposal to wast taxpayer dollars on Rochester Hills golf course.
  • Spearheaded: Defeat of draconian "wetlands and natural features" ordinance that would have infringed the property rights  and reduced the property values of some 5,000 Troy property owners.
  • Spearheaded: Saving taxpayers some $2 million by using "tubular type" road sign structures rather than the more expensive "erector square type."
  • Spearheaded: Campaign to give local restuarants the right to the offer outdoor dining.
  • Spearheaded: Building a consensus on the Troy City Council, that city budgets should never increase faster than the rate of inflation.
  • Helped Spearheaded: Bringing "Nino Salvaggio" fruit market to Troy.
  • Helped Spearheaded: Bringing the "Troy Sport Center" ice arenas to Troy.
  • Helped Spearheaded: The defeat of an unfair regional "Arts Tax."
  • Spearheading Now: Chairman of Troy/Clawson chapter of Michigan Civil Rights Initiative petition drive, to ban racial preferences in state government and state college admissions.
  • Spearheading Now: The Troy/Clawson area campaign for "the people's override" of the governors veto of a partial birth abortion ban. This petition drive will end partial birth abortions in Michigan.
  • Spearheading Now: Chairman of petition drive in Troy/Clawson for a state "Defense of Marriage" constitutional amendment that will define marriage as only between one-man and one-woman.

Personal:

Commissioner Robert Gosselin is married to Jan and has three children. He has been a resident of Troy for 28 years. He is a Senior Designer of  Electrical Systems Engineering for General Motors. He is also a licensed builder, licensed realtor and licensed heating contractor.

He attended Lawrence Technological University, where he studied engineering.
