Personal:
Commissioner Gershenson is married to Ken Robinson and has one son, Drew Gershenson. She is a graduate of  the University of Michigan (1971). Commissioner Gershenson received a B.A. in English with secondary teaching credentials from the university.

She was a member of the Birmingham PTA, Chair of School Neighborhood, Co-Chair of the CECAC (an advisory council to the Birmingham School Board), Volunteer with Orchards Children Services and a United Way Golden Heart Volunteer.
