Important Conference:


Fighting Childhood Obesity Through Education and Empowerment


Childhood obesity often leads to health issues once confined to adults, such as diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol.  This conference is designed to empower families and childcare professionals with techniques and evidence-based strategies to promote and encourage healthy lifestyles.

 


 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Keynote Speaker:  Dr. Thomas Robinson, MD, MPH, Professor of Pediatrics and Director of the Center for Healthy Weight at Stanford University School of Medicine and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital.

Where:  Oakland Schools, 2111 Pontiac Lake Road, Waterford, MI 48328 

When:   Saturday, September 27, 2008, 8:30am-3:00pm

Conference sessions will include:
 

  • Learning about things to do outdoors in Southeast Michigan
  • Exploring ways to create healthy menus and snacks
  • Dealing with emotional and psychological issues of overweight children
  • Cooking with your children
  • Nutrition and physical activity demonstrations
  • Educational exhibits
  • Becoming an advocate for children's health

Cost:   Adults - $10.00 each / Children (ages 5-12 ONLY) - $5.00 each
          (Scholarships Available)
 
Class Minimum:  300 Adults (50 children)

Audience:  Parents, grandparents, children, educators, child care providers, and anyone concerned with the health of children and families.


This program is limited to 50 children and all must be pre-registered.

Please Note: This option is available only to children of adults participating in the conference.  Young people will be grouped by age.
