On Wednesday, November 13, 2013, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners honored posthumously the late Board Chairman Roy E. Rewold. Taub, the late Roy Rewold's wife, Beverly, and son, Frank Rewold holding the proclamation, and Oakland County Vice Chairman Jeff Matis. The proclamation commerated Mr. Rewold’s legacy as a Board leader and businessman in Oakland County. Frank Rewold spoke on how much his late father, Roy Rewold, loved the county and how his dad would say that he taught L. Brooks Patterson everything he knows. Mr. Rewold passed on October 2, 2013.
On Wednesday, November 13, 2013, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners honored Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson with a special recognition. He was honored for 20 years of successful financial management of the county budget and his partnership with the County Commissioners.The Board also recognized his national honor of being named one of nine 2013 Public Officials of the Year, by the national publication, Governing Magazine. On October 17, 2013, Oakland County Officials welcomed speakers from HAVEN, a non-profit organization that provides intervention and prevention services for victims of domestic and sexual violence, in recognition of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. HAVEN’s CEO/President Beth Morrison and a domestic violence survivor Susan addressed the full Board of Commissioners. On October 17, Oakland County Officials honored Brian Kitchin an Oakland County Children’s Village Youth Specialist, who was awarded the 2013 Detention Youth Care Worker of the Year by the Michigan Juvenile Detention Association.

On Wednesday, October 2, 2013, Cheryl Chodun was honored for her more than 35-year career which began as a freelance writer for numerous media outlets including the Southfield Eccentric. She was a news reporter for WCXI and WWJ radio stations and WXYZ-TV 7 Action News. She retired from Action News Channel 7 in July. On August 29, 2013, Oakland County Commissioner Bill Dwyer joined by Commissioner Marcia Gershenson honored the 45-year career of former Farmington Hills Fire Department District Chief Robert E. Rebtoy, who recently retired from the Fire Department. He has the distinction of having a Fire Station named in this honor and has won numerous awards throughout his career.

Thursday, August 29, 2013, a special recognition was presented to Andy Didorosi of the Detroit Bus Company for his generous donation of air condition systems to keep the animals in the Oakland County Animal Shelter and Pet Adopt Center cool. He was presented with the special recognition by Oakland County Director of Public Services Mark Newman, the Oakland County Animal Control and Pet Adoption Center Manager Bob Gatt and Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ Chairman Michael J. Gingell.

On August 29, 2013, Oakland County Commissioner Mike Bosnic, along with Commissioners Robert Gosselin and Gary McGillivray, honored retired Judge Dennis Drury for his community service, professionalism and 29-year career in the court system. Judge Drury’s innovative Drug Treatment Court program has helped to shape lives through rehabilitation. Judge Drury is known as the “Drug Judge” for his outstanding work.

On Wednesday, August 28, 2013, Oakland County Commissioner Marcia Gershenson hosted an informational meeting on the Affordable Health Care Act, to teach residents how to navigate the new health care system which allows residents to compare, price and shop for an insurance plan that works for them individually, enrollment will begin October 1st. The first informational meeting was held in the Costick Center, in Farmington Hills, Michigan, and the next meeting will be held on September 18th at 7pm in the West Bloomfield Township Offices, located at 4550 Walnut Lake Road in West Bloomfield. On Wednesday, May 22, 2013, members of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners honored Oakland County Sheriff’s Captain Henry C. Wallace for his 41 years of service to the county in recognition of his retirement from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department. Captain Wallace has the distinction of being the first African American to be promoted to the rank of Police Captain in the entire State of Michigan. Commissioner Dwyer, who is a former Police Chief and Commissioner Marcia Gershenson, who is a former teacher, have outlined a five-part informational series, which features panelists from different organizations to get multiple viewpoints.

Tuesday, January 22, 2013- Oakland County Commissioners Bill Dwyer and Marcia Gershenson joined with West Bloomfield Police Chief Michael Patton to announce the proposed formation of a study group that would study the gun registration process, especially as it relates to mental health.
