New Airport Security Gates (posted 10/13/06)

You may have noticed two new gates installed on the north side of the airport. As a result of the events of 9/11, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have imposed additional security requirements on all commercial and large general aviation airports. The gates are just one of the many requirements, and are being funded by a DHS grant.

The new gate installed near Hangar #8 on the east end of the Astropark will be for use by Airport ARFF / Maintenance, FAA Facilities, Police and Fire Department personnel only. The entrance / exit available to T-Hangar tenants will continue to be off Airport Road. The gates installed near J Row will grant access to T-Hangar tenants and entry will require use of a proximity card which will be furnished by this office. We currently are awaiting delivery of equipment that will allow us to provide cards to tenants. The gates are expected to be activated in January 2007. Security fencing will also be installed along the North Service Drive to J Row and the current access gate near Royal Air which uses a PIN keypad will ultimately be removed. Complete details regarding the number of cards to be provided for each hangar, the costs of additional or replacement of cards, etc. are not yet determined. At this time we can tell you that:

  • One photo identification gate access card will be assigned to each tenant able to provide current government issued photo ID.
  • Gate access cards will be provided by appointment only(evening and weekend appointments will be made available). Walk-ins will be scheduled at the first available appointment time.
  • Prior to receiving a card, each person will be required to sign an Access Card Agreement acknowledging Airport security requirements.Persons who do not sign the agreement will not be issued an access card.
  • Cards will be provided to registered lease holders only. Tenants who have not previously provided copies of partnership agreements will not be able to verbally confirm partnerships. Upon presentation of appropriate documentation, identification and signing of the Access Card Agreement, additional cards for partners, spouses or additional family members may be purchased.
  • Flying Clubs must provide a copy of their current membership roster including full name, address and phone numbers of each member, each of whom will have to provide appropriate identification and execute the Access Card Agreement in order to receive a card.
  • Airport ARFF / Maintenance staff will not be able to provide access to visitors or anyone claming to have forgotten or lost their card. Tenants will have to meet their visitors at the gate and escort them to their hangar. Replacement cards will only be available from the Administration office during normal office hours.
  • Access cards are not transferable and can be deactivated from this office for violation of the Access Card Agreement and / or non-payment of rent.
  • Current copies of aircraft insurance and registration must be provided, and your account must be current in order to receive a card.

Information Identical to the website will be mailed along with your December invoice with an expected mailing date of November 20, 2006.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation in this transition. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us via e-mail at ocia@oakgov.com.
