Pontiac, Michigan (May 10, 2005) The Office of Arts, Culture & Film presents a lecture and slide presentation about the architecture and gardens of Meadow Brook Hall, on May 19, 2005, from noon to 1:00 p.m. in the Oakland County Lecture Hall.
Meadow Brook Hall is often described as an American castle. It is the former residence of Matilda Dodge Wilson, widow of automobile pioneer John Dodge, and her second husband, lumber broker Alfred G. Wilson. Designed by the Detroit architectural firm of Smith, Hinchman & Grylls, the 110 room Tudor-revival style mansion was inspired by English country manor houses of the Tudor and Elizabethan periods. Meadow Brook Hall is especially renowned for its fine craftsmanship, exquisite architectural detailing and grand scale. Listed on both the national and state registers of historic properties, Meadow Brook Hall strives to preserve and interpret its buildings, gardens, and decorative and fine art so that visitors may be entertained, educated, and inspired by its history.
The presentation will take place on Thursday, May 19, 2005, from Noon to 1:00 p.m. in the Oakland County Lecture Hall, Building 49 West on the County campus at 1200 N. Telegraph Road, in Pontiac.
