Chicano & Hispanic Art

Pontiac, Michigan (September 9, 2003) -- The Office of Arts, Culture & Film presents a lecture by Nora Chapa Mendoza entitled Chicano& Hispanic Art on Thursday, September 18, 2003, from noon to 1:00 p.m. in the Oakland County Lecture Hall. She will address the influence that Chicano and Hispanic art have in American as well as in her art.

Nora Mendoza studied at the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit and has exhibited her work nationally and internationally. She was named "Michigan Artist of the Year" in 1999 and has also received the Governor's Arts Award. Nora devotes much of her time to enriching the local and international communities by sharing her work, her experience, and passing on her skills to a future generation of artists. She is passionate about the conditions confronting the poor people of North, Central and South America and involved in Indian, Hispanic, migrant worker's and women's affairs.

The presentation will take place on Thursday, September 18, 2003 from noon to 1 p.m. in the Oakland County Lecture Hall, Building 49 West on the County campus at 1200 N. Telegraph Road, in Pontiac.
