Big Chief Chorus Award:$762
City: Waterford Minigrant Project Description: Linda Liddicott conducted a series of eight, three hour coaching sessions with the chorus. Sessions were held once a month between October and May. She worked with warm-up and voice techniques, vowel formations and matching, mouth shape, pronunciation, breathing, posture, blending, intensity and presentation. A special session was held in March with three out-of-state coaches complemented Linda's work. A concert was performed at the district convention in April and the new skills developed were showcased.
Great Lakes Lyric Opera Award: $4,000
City: Southfield Minigrant Project Description: The Great Lakes Lyric Opera presented The Canterville Ghost, a national premiere of an original operetta based on the classic short story by Oscar Wilde. A matinee on October 25th and two 1-½ hour evening performances took place on October 26th and 27th in observance of Halloween, in the main theatre of Southfield Centre for the Arts.
The Community House Award: $2,000
City: Birmingham Minigrant Project Description: Student art exhibit, Student Our Town 2002, for ages K-12 – The twelfth annual Student Our Town celebrated the artistic talents of local students, grades K-12, from area private, public and parochial schools. The artwork was exhibited in the halls of The Community House for two weeks. The show was juried and prizes and special recognition was given. 45 schools participated and the number of pieces exhibited was approximately 300.
Hope Network, SE Award: $4,000
City: Pontiac Minigrant Project Description: Hope Network provides community-based residential treatment programs for people with varying developmental and chronic mental disabilities. Their mission is to enhance the dignity and independence of persons who have a disability by creating and maintaining dynamic, integrated services. Hope Network, SE held therapeutic art sessions for approximately 50 people;
1 ½ hour session once a week for 16 weeks.
Creative Arts Center – North Oakland Award: $1,100 City: Pontiac Minigrant Project Description: The Creative Arts Center – North Oakland presented the photography exhibition, World Religions of Metropolitan Detroit and a lecture series about world religions.
Jewish Community Center Award: $3,000
City: West Bloomfield Minigrant Project Description: Lenore Marwil, Jewish Film Festival – The project showed 24 films in 19 slots in Birmingham, Michigan. Filmmakers spoke when possible, reviews were provided for all. This is now, by attendance, the largest film festival in Michigan.
Cantata Academy Award: $4,000 City: Ferndale Minigrant Project Description: Concert, Modern Masters – presented on April 13, 2002 at St. Hugo of the Hills Catholic Church in Bloomfield Hills. The two featured works of the evening were the Igor Stravinsky "Mass" performed with the choir, five vocal soloists, a double wind quintet; and the Leonard Bernstein "Chichester Psalms" performed by the choir, five vocal soloists, organ, harp and percussion. The other works on the program were the "Silent Devotion and Response" from the "Sacred Service" of Ernest Bloch; "The Coolin" from "Reincarnations" by Samuel Barber; and two pieces by Randall Thompson: "The Road Not Taken" from "Frostiana" and "The Last Words of David."
The Art Experience Award: $1,000
City: Pontiac Minigrant Project Description: The Open Studio Therapeutic Arts Program was designed to enhance therapeutic and creative expression and socialization for high functioning mentally ill individuals in recovery from substance abuse, and mainstream people with mild neuroses. An average of 20 people attended therapeutic art sessions, Tuesday and Thursday evenings each week for 2 ½ hours for 16 weeks.
Rochester Heritage Festival Award: $2,000
City: Rochester Minigrant Project Description: The 25th Rochester Heritage Festival is a family oriented event held annually in the Rochester Municipal Park. Its main intent is to celebrate Rochester and Michigan heritage and to inform attendees about this heritage, with special attention aimed to children. A second purpose of the Festival is to provide Rochester area charitable organizations and service organizations with fund raising opportunities. On both accounts, the Festival is an important and welcome cultural event in the community.

Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings Award:$4,000 City: Southfield Minigrant Project Description: Oakland County Education Project – included the following services:
6 appearances at Novi High School – coachings, performances & masterclasses; DCWS Conductor guest conducting the Novi High School Band; 40 appearances in the Southfield Schools – masterclasses, performances, coachings, open rehearsals; 2 performances at the Wildlife Interpretive Gallery at the Detroit Zoo
Birmingham Public Schools Award: $1,600 City: Birmingham Minigrant Project Description: The Birmingham Public schools and Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings hosted an event called "StringExtravaganza." 400 students came from Seaholm High School for a workshop/performance. Clinicians came from all across the state to instruct students and give workshops and performances. The students involved were in grade 5-12. The Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic performed at the afternoon concert along with Birmingham students.
Southfield Public Schools Award:$4,000
City: Lathrup Village Minigrant Project Description: Dance at the Fine Arts Academy – Professional artists from the Eisenhower Dance Ensemble worked with dance students in the Fine Arts Academy at Southfield Lathrup High School for two weeks. Approximately 40 students participated in the program.
Young Audiences of Michigan Award: $4,000
City: Southfield Minigrant Project Description: Southfield Philharmonic Black History Month Concert at the Southfield Centre for the Arts – The project was to produce a Black History Month classical concert with emphasis on reaching seniors and families with young children who have limited exposure to the classical music.
Berkshire Middle School Award: $4,000
City: Beverly Hills Minigrant Project Description: An artist residency for Project 2000 at Berkshire Middle School will provide at-risk students an experiential artistic learning opportunity. It is intended to teach the use of the creative process in the development of the project, such as, through symbolism or expressionism, technical artistic skills, creative problem solving, leadership and teamwork through collaboration. The artist will serve as a role model, mentor and creative guide.
Eisenhower Dance Ensemble Award: $4,000 City: Southfield Minigrant Project Description: The EDE Center for Dance Summer Dance Day Camps is a project for young people sponsored by the Eisenhower Dance Ensemble. Four camp sessions are scheduled over a six-week period. The camps will occur in the EDE Center for Dance, which is located in Rochester Hills. The facility includes both large and small studios, and is
well-equipped and appropriate venue for the camps.
City of Farmington Hills Cultural Art Division Award: $4,000 City: Farmington Hills Minigrant Project Description: Arts on the Grand, a brand-new fine arts festival, became a part of the popular 37-year-old Farmington Area Founders Festival, the largest event in the Farmington/Farmington Hills area. It is a cooperative effort by the Cities of Farmington Hills and Farmington's Cultural Art Division, the Parks Division, Recreation Division, Senior Division and the Farmington Artists Club. Arts on the Grand includes fine arts booths, hands-on arts tent for children, and a concert area.
Fine Arts Society of South Lyon Award: $200
City: South Lyon Minigrant Project Description: The Fine Arts Society of South Lyon held a five day art exhibit and reception. All programming, the exhibition & reception were free of charge and open to the public.
Oakland County Parks & Recreation Award:$4,000 City: Waterford Minigrant Project Description: The Singsation 2002 Music Show presented "Salute to American Musical Theatre" and "Kids Show." The production of both shows will involve three performers singing and dancing to songs from classic Broadway musicals such as Guys and Dolls, Chicago, Evita, The Lion King, and children’s activity songs. The project was 9 weeks in duration throughout the summer. Performances were held 3 times daily, 6 days a week and presented on a reservation basis.
Riley Dance Theatre Award: $4,000
City: Pontiac Minigrant Project Description: Ballet Workshop for children, ages 2 ½ to 16 years old, from inner city Pontiac. After the workshop, a performance was held at the Boys & Girls Club of Pontiac.
Troy Public Library Award:$4,000 City: Troy Minigrant Project Description: Children’s Festival of the Arts – fourteen 45-minute free programs of artistic merit, including book illustrators, authors, puppetry, and storytelling by juried Michigan artists.
Meadow Brook Hall Award:$4,000
City: Rochester Minigrant Project Description: Beautiful Blossoms – a community outreach program taking place Mother's Day weekend and will center around the use of flowers and floral decorations in fine arts, decorative arts, fashion and architecture in America during the 1930s. The diverse activities include tours, children's craft activities, family tea, and lectures.
Arts, Beats & Eats Foundation Award: $4,000 City: Pontiac Minigrant Project Description: The Children's Music Stage at the Arts, Beats & Eats festival – featuring 6 performing groups from Michigan.
