Oakland County Board of Commissioners Loses a Leader - Funeral Arrangements for Oakland County Commissioner George W. Suarez

Pontiac, MI, August 13, 2008 - On Tuesday, August 12, 2008, Oakland County Commissioner George W. Suarez passed away at the age 82. Elected in 1999, Commissioner Suarez represented District #24 which includes the communities of Madison Heights with a portion of the cities of Troy and Royal Oak.

A longtime resident of Madison Heights and a member of the Democratic Party, Commissioner George W. Suarez was an advocate for the people he served and a leader on the Board serving as the Minority Vice Chair for the Personnel Committee. He was also a member of the General Government Committee.

He worked in many capacities and served on numerous committees and boards during his tenure as a member of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners.    

Before joining the Board, Mr. Suarez served the residents of Madison Heights first as a city councilman from 1973 to 1977. In 1977, he became the Mayor of the City of Madison Heights, where he served honorably until 1998. His illustrious career in public service spanned over 30 years.


Funeral arrangements are as follows:

Visitation at Hopcroft Funeral Home, 31145 John R ( North of 13 Mile Road), Madison Heights
Thursday, August 14, 2008, 3 p.m.- 9 p.m.
Friday, August 15, 2008, 2 p.m. 9 p.m.
 
Funeral will be  Saturday, August 16, 2008 at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, 1087 Gardenia, Madison Heights. Family Time: 10:30 a.m.   Mass : 11 a.m.
