Count Your Steps Awards to be Presented

Pontiac, MI, May 28, 2008 The second and third place schools in Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Pattersons annual Count Your Steps pedometer walking program will receive their awards on Thursday, May 29th.

Oakland County Health Division Manager George Miller and Count Your Steps Coordinator Jennifer Kirby will visit Green Elementary School, 4500 Walnut Lake Road in West Bloomfield at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow to present school officials with a banner which recognizes their second place finish this year.  While at Green, the pair will also present West Bloomfield School Superintendent Dr. Gary Farber with a plaque as the first place district.

Miller and Kirby will then visit St. Fabian Elementary School, 32200 West Twelve Mile Road in Farmington Hills at 11:30 a.m. to present school officials with a banner symbolizing their third place finish, and also award an iPod to the student who finished tops among all fourth grade students in this years program.

More than 20,000 third and fourth grade students in 150 Oakland County school participated in the 2008 Count Your Steps program and walked a combined total of 1.3 billion steps.
