Quake On The Lake Partners with the Malibu Open to Enhance the Excitement of an Oakland County Summertime Extravaganza

Pontiac, MI, April 28, 2008 Quake On The Lake is returning to Pontiac Lake in July for its ninth consecutive year, but it will have a dramatic new look in 2008 with the addition of the 10th Annual Malibu Open which is considered a premiere international water ski and wakeboard competition.

By teaming up with the Malibu Open, Quake On The Lake will be transformed into an expanded and even more exciting fun-filled three-day event that runs from July 18th 20th.

Over the past eight years, Quake has emerged as one of Oakland Countys top rated and best attended summertime events, said Dale Hampshire, chairman of Quake On The Lake. The Malibu Open adds an international flavor that will enhance Quake On The Lakes reputation as an event that should not be missed.

Nearly 90 world-class athletes from the U.S., Canada, Great Britain, Italy, Australia, New Zealand and Switzerland will compete in the water ski and wakeboard events.  The Malibu Open features the top slalom skiers, jumpers and wakeboarders who have set records in seven of the events past nine years.  With its presence at Quake On The Lake this year, the Malibu Open returns to the United States after two years in France.

We are excited to be partnering with the organizers of Quake On The Lake to create this unique, high-energy water sports festival in Michigan, said Lani Farmer, team and event director for Malibu Boats.

Back again this year to compete in the inboard hydroplane races will be over 80 of North Americans top teams who over the past eight years have set 15 American Power Boat Association (APBA) records in five different racing classes.

Since its inaugural debut, Quake On The Lake has attracted more than 250,000 spectators including over 30,000 last year alone.

To celebrate the Malibu Open joining Quake, the first day of the event, Friday, July 18th, will feature FREE gate admission.   Ticket prices for Saturday and Sunday are $8 for adults, $4 for kids aged 5 to 12 and children under 5 will be admitted FREE.  An adult weekend pass is $15 and $7 for children.
