Count Your Steps Plans Blockbuster Kickoff Celebration To Herald 2007 Pedometer Walking Program
Pontiac, MI, February 26, 2007 –Nearly 1,000 students from the Walled Lake School District will jam the auditorium of Walled Lake Central High School, 1600 Oakley Park Road on Monday, March 5th to officially launch the 2007 edition of Count Your Steps.
The 10:00 a.m. event will feature a rousing musical performance by Radio Disney dancers along with interactive games hosted by Radio Disney air personality Nikk-E. Radio Disney (AM 910 in Detroit) is one of the new sponsors for Count Your Steps this year. Radio Disney is in 53 markets nationwide and reaches an estimated 3.5 million kids between the ages of 6 and 14 every week.
Walled Lake was chosen as the site of the 2007 Kickoff because it was the top performing school district in Oakland County last year with more than 275 million total steps. Count Your Steps was founded four years ago by Oakland County L. Brooks Patterson as a pro-active way to address the growing national health epidemic of childhood obesity.
So far this year, 180 schools comprising 883 classrooms and 22,000 students are registered for Count Your Steps which runs from March 5 – March 30.
