Count Your Steps Tops List of National Awards for Oakland County
Pontiac, MI, June 29, 2005 – Count Your Steps, Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson’s pedometer walking program to combat childhood obesity, is one of eight Oakland County programs earning 2005 Achievement Awards from the National Association of Counties (NACo).
Also singled out for recognition were:
- OakMap, a self serve kiosk system that provides access to current property and ownership information quickly and easily.
- CLEMIS Community Crime Watch, a web based program enabling communities to independently publish and maintain community oriented policing websites with maps detailing neighborhood crime activities.
- OakSource Enterprise Portal and Self Service Human Resources System, a secure enterprise portal county employees can use to access their own personal information.
- Mass Vaccination Clinic, held on October 24, 2004 at the Summit Place Mall in Waterford resulted in the vaccination of more than 5,500 people, most of whom were elderly, physically challenged or both, in just six hours.
- Breastfeeding Promotion Program, an innovative and multi-faceted initiative to promote and support breastfeeding for mothers and infants.
- Emergency Operation System, Emergency Operation Center (EOS/EOC), an information resource and display system utilizing technology which can be shared among all emergency response teams, decision makers and organizations during the planning, response and recovery phase of an emergency.
- Emergency Response Equipment. The Emergency Response and Preparedness office purchased and supplied critical chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive weapons of mass destruction equipment to fire and police first responders.
