Pontiac, MI -- Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson announces that the Oakland County Health Division vaccinated more than 7,700 people against the H1N1 flu virus at the second Palace of Auburn Hills clinic on Thursday November 12, 2009. In other words, a Health Division nurse inoculated an individual every three seconds.
"In just a few weeks, the Health Division has vaccinated about 37,000 people against H1N1 and pushed out more than 100,000 doses to hospitals and physicians," Patterson says. "There's no doubt they are doing their best to protect the public during this pandemic."
Health and Human Services Director George Miller says the great results derive from a team effort within the Health Division and from those who partner with Oakland County to make these clinics a success. "There is an immense amount of planning and preparation that goes into each clinic," Miller says. "More than one hundred Health Division employees then conduct the clinics with great care and professionalism."
The Oakland County Executive's Office would like to recognizing the following organizations for having a part in the team effort to hold another successful clinic: The Palace of Auburn Hills - whose facility was donated to the county free of charge, The Auburn Hills Police Department, The Auburn Hills Fire Department, The Oakland County Health Division and volunteers from the Community Emergency Response Team.
As the Centers for Disease Control releases more vaccine the Oakland County Health Division will assess its supply before determining additional clinics. "Local physicians are continuing to receive a limited supply of H1N1 vaccine, residents are encouraged to contact their doctor for vaccine availability," says Kathy Forzley, Health Division manager/health officer.
