The initial supply of H1N1 vaccine is limited. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has identified a target population, those who are at greatest risk for severe disease, to be the first to receive this limited supply.
The target population includes: • Pregnant women
• Children and young adults 6 months through 24 years of age
• Caregivers for children under 6 months of age
• Adults 25 through 64 years of age with underlying medical conditions
• Healthcare workers and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) service workers
"Because of the limited supply of vaccine, residents are asked to consider the target population criteria before they decide to receive a vaccine," states Kathy Forzley, Manager/Health Officer, Oakland County Health Division. "Based on current data, the target groups are at greatest risk for severe disease."
NOTE: Due to the limited amount of vaccine received from the CDC to date, the October 24th clinics are the only ones scheduled at this time. As vaccine becomes available, OCHD will continue with its comprehensive 2009 H1N1 Vaccine Distribution Plan at school-based clinics. In addition, many health care providers will begin receiving vaccine in the coming weeks.
